Enable Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling
Prerequisites
- Windows 11 PC
- Dedicated Nvidia or AMD GPU
Enable Via Registry Editor
- Open up the Run dialog by pressing the Windows and R keys.
- Now, type in regedit and hit the Enter key.
- The Registry Editor will now open up.
- In the address bar, simply navigate to this path. Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
- Now right-click on the right blank area.
- From the context menu select New followed by DWORD (32-bit) value.
- Set the name of the new DWORD value as HwSchMode.
- Now, select the value and edit the Value Data as 2. This is done to Enable Hardware Scheduling.
- To disable Hardware Scheduling enter 1 as the Value Data.
- Click the OK button and save.
- The system might ask for a restart. Restart the system.
- You have now enabled hardware acceleration on your Windows 11 system.
Enable Via Settings App
- Open up the Start Menu and click on the Settings app.
- When the Settings app launches, make sure to select the System option on the left.
- Now, on the right, click on the Display option.
- With the Display settings open, scroll down till you find the Graphics option.
- Under the Default settings option, click on the blue text that says Change Default graphic settings.
- Now, click on the toggle that says Hardware-accelerated GPU.
- Once you turn it on, the system will ask to be restarted.
- Restart your system and see the difference in performance while playing your games.
This is how you can enable or even disable hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling on your Windows 11 PC. Do remember that if you have an integrated GPU this setting will usually not be available. Any modern Nvidia or AMD graphics card should work just fine. Also, this feature works best for systems that are kind of low spec or even mid-spec.
