Google continues to improve GCam with the release of Google Camera 8.6. The latest update to the GCam app comes a month after Google Camera 8.5. The latest version of Google Camera brings some UI changes to the app, speech enhancements and more. The app code hints at support for Pixel foldable and hotspot selfie tips. With the Google Camera 8.6 update, Google adds support for dynamic colors to the various buttons (Panorama, Photosphere, and Lens) available in the Modes section of the Material U app. In addition to the content you support, there is a dock in the background for better visibility and the placement of the buttons has also changed and looks more populated.
The next feature available in the new version of GCam is speech enhancement. This is not a new feature, it was available since launch but only works with front camera video recording. You can now also use the speech enhancement feature with the rear camera to reduce unwanted noise like “wind, traffic and crowd”. You can record videos in FHD resolution (1080p) at 30fps with speech enhancement turned on. Apart from these features, you can expect overall enhancements to the app.

According to 9to5Google, Google is working on a new Pixel foldable mode, hotspot selfie tips, two new modes (amber and amethyst) and Pixel 7-centric features. “We have the best proof of Google’s continued efforts with the foldable Pixel,” says 9to5Google, thanks to the addition of a new mode called “Jupiter.” GCam is the feature icon.
Hotspot Selfie Tips is the next thing coming to the Google Camera app, it will improve the way we take selfies, yes, it will bring coaching features for better selfies. Talking about new features, GCam is coming with some new features called Amber and Amethyst, a feature called Amber Code is a new video recording feature for Pixel phones. The app also hints at some features exclusive to the upcoming Pixel 7 series phones.
At the time of writing, the new update is available for Pixel users running Android 13 OS.
